Basement Waterproofing Solutions Auckland

Find the Right Fix

Not every wet basement is the same problem. Not every damp wall has the same cause. And not every waterproofing solution is the right fit for every situation. That’s what makes basement waterproofing different from most trades,  the diagnosis matters as much as the work itself.

At this company, we don’t show up with one solution and try to fit your problem to it. We assess your specific situation,  your block wall construction, your drainage conditions, your soil type, your property’s layout, and the nature of the water problem you’re experiencing,  and we recommend the solution that’s actually going to fix it. Permanently.

Here’s a rundown of the basement waterproofing solutions we offer, what each one does, and when it’s the right call.

John and his team were fantastic - professional, knowledgeable and incredibly hardworking. They were friendly and tidy, and nothing seemed to faze them when unexpected issues came up. They just found solutions and got on with the job. It feels so good to be living in a dry home again! We really appreciated the care and effort they put in and are so pleased with the result. Would absolutely recommend them.

Basement Waterproofing Auckland came and waterproofed our Auckland basement in June this year. They did an excellent job; communication was very clear and prompt, going above and beyond to keep us informed of progress and to respond to any questions we had. They also quoted clearly and promptly, with every aspect itemised, and kept us informed if changes were needed to the schedule (for example, when the job took a little longer than expected). The workers themselves were lovely, really pleasant, polite and considerate of noise during particular times for me as a homeworker. They left the site very clean and tidy, too. The job they did is fantastic, and we feel confident that we won't have problems with flooding in the future. I would highly recommend them to anyone looking to have waterproofing work done, and would certainly employ them in the future.

This winter our basement started leaking suddenly which created a huge problem. John was recommended to us and from start to finish everyone involved with Galaxie plumbing provided a professiomal service that couldnt be faulted. From the outset John provided excellent advice, discussed options with us and to our relief was quick to get his team on site to start the job. The guys were friendly, punctual, always helpful and we are delighted with the finished result. We highly recommend them. Steve and Yolanda Brooking

John and his team provided a superior service over all the other companies I approached for help. Initial response was fast and friendly, and the work was carried out efficiently and tidily. Due to John’s extensive knowledge and experience, he was able to address a serious problem that other companies had baulked at. In heavy rain, stormwater would run under my deck and pour over a block wall into a basement storage area. This resulted in flooding and multiple insurance claims. With limited space to work with, John devised a cost-effective solution which was a work of art in itself. After years of rain anxiety, I am most grateful to John and his amazing team for providing me with some much-needed stress relief.

Your team did a great job. I had a leak in my basement and John was the only one to come out and give me a quote, and he was considerate of my budget and stress. I really couldn't recommend his team more highly throughout the process. Everyone was courteous and respectful of my experience. The end result was a sealed basement and a new storm drain system installed into my storm drain system. Thank you so much, I am so grateful I chose this company.

External Basement Waterproofing

This is the gold standard,  the solution that stops water before it ever reaches your walls. External waterproofing involves excavating around your basement or foundation walls to expose the exterior face, applying a professional-grade waterproofing membrane, and installing a drainage system to manage groundwater and prevent hydrostatic pressure from building against the wall.

External waterproofing is the right solution when you want the most comprehensive, long-lasting protection available, when you’re doing a significant renovation where excavation is already on the cards, or when interior solutions have been tried and haven’t held. It costs more and takes longer than some other approaches,  but it fixes the problem at the source rather than managing it from the inside.

Best for: Serious or persistent water ingress, new construction, major renovation projects, properties on sloped sections with significant groundwater movement.

Basement Leak Repair

Active water coming into your basement,  running down walls, pooling on the floor, appearing after rain,  needs to be diagnosed and repaired at the source. Basement leak repair isn’t a single method; it’s a process. We identify where water is getting in and why, then apply the appropriate repair: membrane replacement, crack injection, mortar joint repointing, drainage rectification, or a combination.

The key word here is diagnosis. A lot of so-called leak repairs fail because the visible symptom got treated without finding the actual cause. A wet patch on your interior wall might look like an interior problem, but the failure could be an exterior membrane that’s given up, a blocked drain creating hydrostatic pressure, or a foundation crack that’s been slowly widening. We trace it back to the source.

Best for: Active water ingress, visible leaks after rain, flooding events, properties where water has begun appearing and the cause needs identifying.

Basement Foundation Waterproofing

Foundation waterproofing focuses specifically on the below-grade portion of your home’s structural base,  the part of the building that’s in direct contact with soil and groundwater. This is the most critical area to protect, because water damage to your foundation doesn’t just mean a wet basement; it means potential structural compromise over time.

Foundation waterproofing involves applying membrane to the exterior face of the foundation walls from the footing up to ground level, combined with drainage systems that prevent water buildup at foundation level. It’s core work on any new construction project and critical remediation work on older Auckland properties where original foundation waterproofing has degraded.

Best for: New construction, older properties with no or failed original waterproofing, any situation where the foundation itself is the source of water ingress.

Basement Damp Proofing

Not every basement problem involves visible water. Chronic dampness,  that clammy atmosphere, the musty smell that won’t go away, the mould that keeps coming back,  is its own category of problem and requires its own approach.

Damp proofing addresses moisture vapour transmission through block walls and condensation buildup in below-ground spaces. In Auckland’s humid climate (average relative humidity around 80-85%), this is a real and common issue even in basements that don’t have active leaks. We identify whether the damp source is vapour coming through the walls, condensation from temperature differentials, inadequate ventilation, or a combination,  and apply the appropriate treatment.

Best for: Basements with a persistent damp atmosphere but no visible active leaks, mould problems, properties where humidity and condensation are the primary concern.

Retaining Wall Waterproofing and Drainage

Auckland’s hilly terrain means retaining walls are everywhere,  and block retaining walls face unique waterproofing challenges. They’re holding back soil that’s often heavily saturated in winter, which means hydrostatic pressure is constantly building behind them. Without proper drainage and waterproofing, that pressure leads to cracking, bulging, and eventual wall failure.

Our retaining wall waterproofing service includes installing drainage systems behind the wall (perforated novacoil pipe, gravel drainage layers, and weep holes where appropriate), waterproofing the back face of the wall, and ensuring surface grading directs water away from the wall. For existing retaining walls showing distress, we assess whether drainage retrofit and protective treatment can extend the wall’s life.

Best for: Block retaining walls on sloped sections, retaining walls showing signs of water pressure (cracking, movement, staining), new retaining wall construction.

How We Choose the Right Solution for Your Property

When you call us for an inspection, here’s what we’re looking at:

  • Where is water appearing, and when,  after rain, during heavy rain only, constantly regardless of weather?
  • What type of construction,  poured concrete foundation, concrete block, older stone or brick?
  • What’s the soil like,  free-draining or heavy clay that holds water?
  • Is the section flat or sloped, and which direction does groundwater move?
  • What drainage currently exists, and is it functioning?
  • Has any waterproofing been done before, and if so, what and when?
  • What access is available for excavation equipment if exterior waterproofing is required?

Once we have a clear picture, we tell you exactly what we recommend and why. If there are multiple viable options with different cost and outcome trade-offs, we explain those too,  so you can make an informed decision rather than just taking our word for it.

Why Getting the Solution Right Matters

Choosing the wrong waterproofing solution,  or a solution that treats symptoms rather than causes,  costs you twice. You pay for the first fix, it doesn’t hold, and then you pay again for the repair that should have been done initially. We’ve been called in to remediate failed waterproofing work done by other operators more times than we’d like to count.

The most common failure we see: interior membrane or paint-on coating applied to a wall that was actively leaking from the outside. It looks like a fix for a while, then the water finds another path. Exterior waterproofing would have fixed it the first time.

We’re not going to recommend the cheapest option just to win the job. We’re going to recommend what will actually work,  and then we’ll back it with a warranty.

We service the full Auckland region,  from Rodney and the Hibiscus Coast in the north to Pukekohe and Papakura in the south, and across both the North Shore and west Auckland.
